AAO Music has just announced that Ky-Mani Marley (the son of Bob Marley) will be the special guest on the upcoming Van Halen tour. According to Peter G. Kuys, Chairman of AAO Music, Inc.:
"This is truly a great opportunity for Ky-Mani, not only to support his new release, but to present his considerable musical talent to a mainstream audience" The tour will coincide with the release of his new album, Radio. According to the press release:
All of the singles contain Marley's unique sound of classical reggae beats mixed with contemporary hip hop. The full press release is available at the AAO Music website
O.K., reggae/hip-hip? Opening for Van Halen??? I don't know whose bright idea this was but this can't end well. Van Halen fans are not exactly known for their love of reggae or hip-hop, so this can't be much fun for either artist or the audience (except for a few with more ecclectic tastes). I've seen record companies try things like this before and the fans were never happy (especially with Dream Theater in the past, and fortunately they've at least gotten to the point where they can now choose their own opening acts and avoid that problem).
Well, I'm thinking of going to the Staples Center show here in Los Angeles, so I guess I'll see first-hand how well this goes. |
