Earth. Face. Vanish. |
I apologize for once again vanishing off the face of the earth, but first I had a Deadline from Hell at work, then the end of my car lease, and now I'm once again taking classes, this time Computer Science classes at West Los Angeles College. I'm posting now because my web host pulled a disappearing act and I'm currently transferring over to new web space. Hopefully this will go smoothly and there won't be any down time in between, but if you see this the transfer went through and you're on the new site!
In other news, due to getting way too much spam (and no legitimate e-mail to speak of) I'm not recreating any of the old contact addresses listed on the site, and will be creating new ones. You will need Javascript enabled to see the new links, though, since I'm trying to keep spammer scum from harvesting my e-mail addresses again.

Slow minors |
If you've checked in I've slowly been making minor updates to the site (but not enough to update here). Mostly I've been cleaning out bad links, taking out e-mail addresses, and doing more fixes as I find them. I'm going to try to keep working on it, but I have a nasty Deadline From Hell at my day job June 25th that is going to keep me really busy, so until that's over with there are no guarantees.

Certificate in Applications |
Once again I have to apologize for not updating the site in so long. I finally finished my Certificate in Applications Programming from UCLA Extension in December, and since then I've been busy working on other things. My biggest project is a game I'm writing in C++/DirectX (see http://www.sgvgames.com) in the hopes of eventually getting into game programming and getting out of the web permanently (at least as a day job). Unfortunately this is taking a lot of my time and I still have the web day job. However, since I haven't been updating the site much in the past year I've noticed the traffic has gone down, and I'd like to see it pick up again, so I've decided to attempt to update the site a little more regularly. Also, with my current financial situation I'd really like to see the affiliate sales go up too. I hate to ask this, but if you're looking to buy cds please consider trying http://rockonline.gemm.com. You'd be getting great prices and finding cool stuff AND supporting Rockers Online!
I've started going through and cleaning out the bad links I've found again, and in the process I added several Berlin sites and replaced the Bone Machine page (I couldn't find any working links specifically for the band) with a Ted Poley page. I've also started working on a new policy. I've noticed that spammers (those scum of the Earth) seem to be pulling my e-mail address from here and other web sites. Because of this, and because I really should only be listing artists e-mail addresses if I get their permission, which I don't have time to do right now, I am going to be removing all e-mail addresses from the site as I go. If someone wants their e-mail address on the site they're welcome to e-mail me and let me know. Eventually, when the site is database driven, I'd like to have an automated process of asking permission, but until then you'll have to check the sites themselves for that information. Sorry! That's really where I get that information anyway (no, I don't have any secret lists of band e-mail addresses;))!

End of CD Now Affiliation |
Well, I wasn't expecting an update yet but I got e-mail from CD Now that they're discontinuing their affiliate program and I had to remove the links by 12/3. Thanks God for global searches;). It's no big loss since in the over a year I've been an affiliate I've made a grand total of about $5. Obviously Rockers Online users prefer the selection at GEMM (and I can't really blame you;).) I apologize for being away so long and not updating it, but for the past year I've been working full time and taking classes half time at UCLA Extension, and in a few weeks I will be finished with my Certificate in Applications Programming. Until that's done I've been forced to pretty much put the site on hold (if you sent me any e-mails in the past year and were wondering why I haven't responded now you know:).). Hopefully once these last classes end I'll have time to start updating the site once in a while again! At that point I'll be taking a few months off from classes (I'm probably going to go back for a Computer Science degree but right now I really need a break) so I should have more time.

Programming Classes |
Well, I haven't had as much time since I started taking programming classes again at UCLA, but today I got a little work done. I added a page for Superior (who have a cool new trailer for their upcoming CD. See that page to check it out!) and I also cleaned up and did some updates to the G's.

This update brought to you by the letter... |
Well, it's been a busy past few weeks, including a trip to NY via Atlanta for ProgPower (I have tons of pictures I need to eventually scan in and add to my personal site.). One problem I discovered while I was in NY and have been trying to get straightened out ever since is with my e-mail. For at least the past month (possibly for as long as the past 2-3 months) I have had several periods of time where ANY e-mail sent to me at rockersonline.com (or sent by me from it) vanished into a black hole somewhere never to be seen again, without so much as a bounce message. E-mail sent to me never arrived, and e-mail I sent never got to the intended recipient.
Today my host informed me that they finally found the cause: a spammer on the same server who was overloading the mail server. That account is being cancelled, so hopefully this problem is finally going to be resolved. But considering the situation I wanted to warn people that e-mail sent to me over the past 2-3 months may not have gotten to me, so if you sent anything important you might want to try resending it! Theoretically rockersonline.com e-mail should be fine now, but if you want to be safe, in the meanwhile you can use my alternate e-mail address.
Since I was at it I just went through and did some more cleanup/updating to the site (up to the letter c).

GEMM? A diamond in the rough. |
In an effort to save money Rockers Online is in the process of switching hosts, so if anything weird happens check back later. The good news is the new host supports not only PHP but also ASP, Cold Fusion, Access, SQL Server 2000, etc. So I will probably be switching over to ASP which should hopefully make it easier for me to make the site database driven finally, which means updating it won't be quite such a hassle (and I'll be able to give other people accounts to update pages themselves which should really improve how often this place gets updated;).). This is going to take a while but eventually it will happen.
Since response to my description of GEMM seems to have proved my initial theory that it really is the best affiliate for my site since you can find so much great stuff there you can't find anywhere else, I've added a permanent note to this home page so people who aren't familiar with GEMM will see what it is:).
